Holiday Overindulgence

Sirius launched himself onto Remus’ bed, flopping down on his back beside Remus. The bed shook from the motion, which made him laugh and made Remus moan. He put a hand to his head, wincing.

“Sirius, don’t!”

“Aww,” Sirius rolled over onto this stomach, shaking the bed more. “Did someone eat too much chocolate at the party? Do you have a funny tummy now?” He curled a little to get into a position where he could nuzzle his face under Remus’ shirt, pushing it up a little. He kissed Remus’ stomach tenderly. And he was tempted to kiss more than that.

Remus shoved his shirt back down into place. “My tummy’s fine. And you know that there’s no such thing as too much chocolate as far as I’m concerned. It’s my head.”

“Ohhh. Too much fire whiskey then.” He chuckled. “You should go easy on that.”

Remus rubbed his thumb and forefinger over his forehead, massaging his temples. “Wasn’t that either. I didn’t touch a drop.”

“Your loss.” He smothered a small burp into his fist. “So what’s made your head… oh…” He smiled as he lazily laid his head on Remus’ chest. “I see. You’ve been reading under the covers by wandlight to avoid the party, haven’t you?”

“No.”

“I think yes. All that straining to read hurt your head. I think you were hiding out here so you didn’t have to go to the party and socialize.”

“No… I…” He sighed. “All right, yes. But really I just wanted to avoid everyone sniffly. Half the school is ill.”

“Don’t I know it!” No fewer than three people had sneezed on him during the party, not that that had stopped him from celebrating one bit.

“I just had my transformation two days ago, so my immune system’s useless right now. You know I pick up everything that’s going around. I just didn’t want to be sick during the holidays. Again.” He paused a minute, uncertainly. “Was it a good holiday party?”

“Oh, amazing. Parsons enlarged this chocolate frog so we had this huge thing hopping all over the common room; it got so big we all had to press ourselves up against the wall and then it exploded into all these small pieces of chocolate. James and Lily… blimey, that’s going to take some getting used to saying...” They both laughed. “Right then, James and Lily did this dance number while Fletcher and Williams played guitars. Peter passed out under a table; I expect he’s still there.”

Sirius raised his head, looking at Remus, taking in the pained expression, wrinkled brow, squinting eyes. He looked terribly miserable and tired to boot. “Does it hurt terribly?”

Remus whimpered, nodding.

“Can I do something to make you feel better? Can I sneak down to the hospital wing and nick something for you?”

Remus shook his head. “Just hold me.”

“It’s late. I’ll probably nod off pretty soon. You sure you want me spending the night in your bed?”

“I’m sure. Help me fall asleep.”

“Right. I can do that.” He crawled further up the bed and lay down on his side. He pulled Remus into his arms and held tight. “Close your eyes,” he soothed, warm breath on Remus’ cheek. “I’ll hold you all night.”

With great difficulty, Remus forced his eyes open. Sirius sat in bed, hunched over, pinching his nose. “Sirius?” Remus asked, his voice deep and tired from sleep. Remus sat up, rubbing at his eyes.

Sirius looked over, his cheeks flushed. “Bollucks. I thought that was quiet enough. Didn’t mean to wake you.” He gave a long, drawn-out sniff. “Think I’m coming down with something.”

Remus groaned. “But I’ve been snuggling up against you all night! Ugh, there’s no way I won’t catch it now.”

“Yeah… you probably shouldn’t have let me stay the night… ihhhPTishhooo! Sniff!  But your headache’s probably gone, right?”

Remus groaned again, flopping back onto the bed.
